GOA 2012

Educating one child won't change the world – but, for that one child, the world will change forever.

Information for Parents

We hope that parents will find the following information helpful.

Finance

Cost of the Trip

You can pay for the trip in full at anytime; however, below is the schedule for when certain amounts of money are due.

Please make cheques payable to Silcoates School Foundation.

Payment 1 - £400 - 20th March 2011
Payment 2 - £500 - 10th July 2011
Payment 3 - £400 - 30th September 2011
Payment 4 - £400 - 17th December 2011 (End of Term)
Payment 5 - £400 - 1th February 2012 (Last Payment)

Visas

Pupils will also be required to pay for an India Tourist Visa. This costs £42.50 and will be due in November. Pupils will be told exactly how to fill out the visa form under staff supervision. Pupils will require 2 passport photos of 2inch by 2 inch. These are hopefully going to be done in school.

Spending money

Pupils will not require a lot of spending money. This is because all the excursions are included in the price of the trip. However, pupils should bring with them a maximum of £100 . It wil be very hard for them to spend this.

The current exchange rate is 71 rupees to the pound. Rupees can not be bought in the UK so cash will be exchanged when we are in India.

Equipment

Pupils will not require a lot of kit for the trip. However, as a rough guide it is important that they have the following:

A pair of sturdy shoes / boots for building work; walking boots are suitable. Steel toe cap boots can be purchased through school for around £12. Students will be working on site for 70% of the time and therefore strong supporting footwear is vital.
Clothes suitable for getting dirty.
Clothes suitable for the beach - swimwear, flip flops, hat.
Smart outfit for end of tour dinner (smart jeans, t-shirt etc.).
Mosquito repellent.
Sun cream (high factor as it will be very hot).
Sun glasses.

A more detailed kit list will be given at a later date.

Medical Information

We are going to a very clean part of india and as a result it isn't important that you take malaria tablets. However, if you are in any doubt then we would suggest that you consult your own GP for advice.

Advice regarding vaccinations is being sought and more details will follow later.
